ARGENTINE MEAT MAY BE CHEAPER

Press Association—Copyright) BUENOS AIRES, June 9. British and European housewives may expect bigger and cheaper shipments of Argentine meat as a result of a decree announced yesterday slashing export taxes. The decree said chilled or frozen beef, lamb, and sub-pro-duets will pay 4 per cent, sales tax instead of 8 per cent, as hitherto. An additional 3 per cent, tax designed to encourage steer breeding is scrapped altogether. A National Meat Board announcement said the move “will considerably improve Argentine’s chances of placing these products competitively in foreign markets.” farther commercial news, awears on page 20.
