PROPERTY FOR Y.M.C.A.
Hamilton Man’s £lO,OOO Gift
(New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON, June 9.
A property worth £lO,OOO had been given to the Hamilton Young Men’s Christian Association, the national secretary (Mr G. F. Briggs) announced at a Y.M.C.A. luncheon today. The gift was made by Mr and Mrs W. T. Luxton of Hamilton. Mr Luxton is well known as a cattle breeder and is prominent in Hamilton affairs. Mrs Luxton has been interested in Y.M.C.A. work for many years. Mr Briggs said today that the gift was one of the most outstanding made in the history of Hamilton. The Y.M.C.A. was in the process of raising £40,000 for additions to the present buildings as a memorial to Mr H. Ledgerwood, a former secretary of the Y.M.C.A. in Hamilton. It would shift its headquarters to the new home on the Main South road, he said.
The property covers one and-a-third acres and is next to the Y.W.CA. hostel. The new buildings will be dedicated to the memory of Mr Ledgerwood.
