N.Z.-Born Journalist Arrested In Cuba
HAVANA, June 3«‘ o A New Zealand journalist, Mr Edward William** Scott, a Havana resident for many yeaft, has beenarrested by the Cuban Government’s military investigation department for “investigation.”
Mr Scott a columnist for the “Havana Post” and correspondent for the National Broadcasting Corporation of the United States, was born at Reefton. He was arrested yesterday aboard a plane at the Havana Airport He was about to fly to Miami, Florida, for a short visit. The arrest was confirmed today by the Cuban Armed Forces Investigation Department Officials of the British Embassy have tried to see Mr Scott who is being held incommunicado. The British Embassy has made formal diplomatic representations to the Cuban Ministry of State to ascertain the reason for Mr Scott's detention. United Press said Mr Scott was a “New Zealand national.” Mr Scott was arrested by a secret service agent who boarded the Miami-bound plane a few minutes before It was scheduled to take off. Mr Scott, the former editor of the “Panama American," has
been in the Caribbean and Central America for X years.
