Modern Glass And Furniture

There was ,an international flavour in the' display of glassware shown during a demonstration lecture in Christchurch on Tuesday evening. The speaker was Mr John Copp, who used samples from all over the world to illustrate his talk. In a myriad of exotic colours there were tumblers from Holland, wine glasses from Sweden, ashtrays of Venetian glass, a vase from Germany and antique olive glasses from France. The second half of the lecture was devoted to furniture of modern design. Mr Copp asked his audience to appreciate the artistry in the creation of new pieces as he said they marked the beginning of the growth of a new age in this field. “What you wouldn’t want to have in your home today, your children are going to want later,” he said. “You may as well try to understand the furniture without condemning it as unsuitable for you. It will not be long before you yourselves will grow to like it.”

Three chains were on display, contemporary in covering and shape but not extreme.
