WREATH LAID AT GENERAL SMUTS’S STATUE.—Sir Roderick Jones, formerly principal proprietor of Reuters and at one time resident in Cape Town, lays a wreath at the foot of the statue of General Smuts in Parliament Square, London, on May 24, the anniversary of the great statesman’s birthday. May 31 was the fiftieth anniversary of the formation of the Union of South Africa.
