HEAVY RAIN IN CITY
Light Falls In North Heavy rain fell in Christchurch and South Canterbury yesterday, but North Canterbury had only light showers. The rain in Christchurch stopped just before 11 p.m. At Darfield, 90 points were recorded between 6.30 p.m. and 9 p.m. There was light hail at 6 p.m. and the temperature fell to 45 degrees. Light rain started to fall in Christchurch at 6 p.m. yesterday and after a brief pause heavy rain fell from 7 p.m. until just before 11 p.m. Taxis were in heavy demand from 6 p.m. to just after 8 p.m.
At Ashburton there were light showers in the early morning and evening but the sky was partly clear at 11 p.m. Heavy rain at Meth ven which started at 5.30 p.m. was still falling at 9.30 p.m. There were light showers in the morning.
Oxford had a short shower at 4.30 p.m. which was recorded as 3} points.
There was intermittent rain at Rangiora with heavy showers at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Conditions are fairly dry particularly the coastal strip from Rangiora to Amberley. Light drizzle started at Waipara at 8 p.m. after two showers during the day. At Culverden a brief shower fell at 8 p.m. and there was light rain from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
