SHARP DROP IN ATTENDANCES

Sydney Trotting Losing Ground

In spite of a most successful Inter-Dominion Championship meeting earlier in the year when more than 50.000 attended the final night, trotting has been losing ground in Sydney. Attendances have been dropping below the 16.000 mark, well below the average nightly attendance in recent seasons. Cooler weather has been advanced as one of the reasons for the fall in attendances, but the night was mild for the final of the New South Wales Pacers’ Derby, which drew the’ best field of three-year-olds ever seen on the course. Official attendance figures that night were 15,937. The New South Wales Trotting Club is concerned at the drop and plans are being made to arrest it and encourage people back to the course. Much of the trouble is attributed to the committee, which represents a membership of a little more than 70. It is claimed that more members should be elected in an attempt to improve ‘ public relations.
