NO TRANSPORT STOPPAGE
Report Denied By President There would be no Dominionwide stoppage of public transport on Friday, said the national president of the Public Passenger Transport Authorities' xmployees’ Union (Mr ,1* C. JSouthon) in Christchurch last evening. He was commenting on an earlier report which-said a special meeting of the Auckland Transport Board was told, YCaterdw. that stop-work meetings would be held on Friday with the Object of instructing union members not to operate the rear doom of "There has been no thought of a stoppage.” said Mr Southon. He said he. had just returned tram Wellington where toe /natter had been discussed with the Minister of Labour (Mr Hackett). The outcome was that toe union expected to hold a meeting with the employers. Another report said that top dispute over the two-man operation of Wellington City Council buses had been taken up by Mr Hackett after assurances from the union that no atop-woxdr meetings would be heli and Jh*t union members would not refuse to work the rosters for the Brooklyn-Aro street change-over on Sunday from diesel to trolley That statement, said • Mr Southon, was the only one of any merit. -
