Balloons And Shields In Old Girls’ Colours

Balloons and shields in the Christchurch Girls’ High School old girls’ colours of navy blue, red, turquoise and silver, decorated the Winter Garden last evening, when 34 debutantes made their curtsies to Miss A. M. Burns, president of the Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association.

They were presented by the headmistress (Miss R. F. C. Tyndall).

A posy of flowers, the gift of the association, was presented to each girl. The debutantes were: Misses G*. Bentley, J. Butcher, E. Campbell, A. Comfort, H. Culloty, E. Fairweather, R. Harry, J. Hendrie, N. Hill, E. Hodgen, J. Irving, L. Kingsbury, A. Lester, M. Martin, I* Nightingale, L. Pain, C. Paterson, A. Pearce, B. Perham, J. Power, M. Reid, D. Robinson, G. Rothwell, J. Salt, K. Skinner, E. Warren, J. White, M. Williams, L. Wordsworth, A. Wright, B. Loader. J. O’Brien, P. Roberts and M. Munro.

They were trained by Miss E. Cornyns Thomas.

Specially invited guests included Miss R. F. C. Tyndall (headmistress), Miss E. Cornyns Thomas, Miss A. Freeman, Miss B. Waller and Miss R. Anderson (representing the staff), the president of the Parent-Teacher Association (Mr C. L. Harper) and Mrs Harper, Mr and Mrs C. H. Perkins, and representatives from the following kindred associations: Avonside Girls’ High School. St. Margaret’s College, Rangiruru, Christchurch West Girls’

High School and Christchurch Boys' High School. Miss Bums wore a gown of ibronze striped Cumberland silk made with a fitting bodice and skirt cut on cupola lines. Miss Tyndall close a sheath of pale grey, black and silver tinsel brocade, with draped back interest

Miss O. L. Eslick chose a peacock blue satin brocade for her gown, which had a draped bodice and skirt with pleated fullness at the centre back. Members of the committee were: Miss A. M. Burns, Mrs R. S. W. Owen, Miss M. B. Kissel, Mesdames L. Cox, G. M. Miller, W. A. Staff, D. Millar, O. A. Michel, R. E. Edwards, J. Tregear, Misses P. Edward, V. Crouch and O. L. Eslick.
