RACING Robinson Team In Form For Blenheim
Another successful South Island “raid” by horses from the Matangi stable of I. Robinson seems practically certain at the Marlborough Racing Club’s meeting, which will open today.
The two-year-old Ebb and the hack sprinter Pescador are expected to win races for the stable at Blenheim today.
Members of the Robinson team with engagements at the Marlborough meeting were flown from Paraparaumu to Blenheim yesterday. They travelled from the Waikato to Paraparaumu by float.
> Ebb has had three races for Robinson, and was in fairly strong company when she ran third over >ix furlongs at the Rotorua meeting a fortnight ago.
Pescador has also had three races this season, and has won the last two of them. He was one of the successful campaigners for the Robinson stable at the twoday Whangarei meeting earlier this month. R. J. Skelton will ride Ebb and Pescador. No rider had been engaged yesterday for Super Tone in the Seddon Hack Handicap. Bailiff is another member of the Robinson team engaged today. This hurdler has no worth while form close up on his record, but he will hardly get a better chance to come back to winning form. Bailiff schooled well at Te Rapa earlier in the week. He will be ridden today by D. M. Keenan. Course Double The club will operate a double for course patrons on the Novice Stakes and the Seddon Hack Handicap. King of Kings will be a popular fancy for the first leg after a second against the hack milers at Tauherenikau on April 18.
' Golden Rhapsody should take beating in the Seddon Handicap if he goes anywhere near as well as he did at Riccarton last Saturday, when he was third over seven furion ?s after a slow start in a big field. The T.A.B. double is on the Marlboroush Cup and the Seymour Handicap. Valaris and Compensate, both members of J. C Hobbs’s Oamaru
team, will be a solidly-supported combination. Valaris ran two sound races in much stronger fields at Riccarton last week.
Fair King, top weight with 8-6. is expected to be the best of Valaris’s rivals.
Compensate has been finding success elusive lately, but he has been running in strong fields at Trentham and Riccarton, and has been improving a serviceable record with minor placings.
Last Saturday he was third to Cardinal King and Roman Maid in the Challenge Stakes at Riccarton.
