FIRST CHARGE AGAINST TITLE
Nassella Board’s
Decision
The North Canterbury Nassella Tussock Board is to register its first charge against the title deeds of a property. The Minister of Agriculture (Mr Skinner) declined to accept the board’s request that a particular property on which* charges were outstanding for control work should be taken over by the Government and vested in the board, a letter from the Minister, which was read to the annual general meeting of the board saia.
The Minister’s letter said that the Land Settlement Board had recommended that the property not be taken over. The board should make full use of its powers under the Nassella Tussock Act to recover the outstanding charges and, if necessary, register the charge against the title of the land, the letter said.
The Minister said that the Lands and Survey Department was prepared to consider postponing a year’s rent on the occupier's Crown lease, providing that an equivalent amount was spent on approved control measures. On the motion of Mr S. G. Taylor, the Lands and Survey Department representative on the board, a letter from the department, and the discussion which followed, was taken in committee. A motion was confirmed in open meeting later that the existing outstanding charges be registered against the land, and that any future charges not recovered in the normal way be similarly registered.
