DISCUSSIONS AT TE ANAU
Chief Engineer Joins Group
(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, April 29.
The Ministry of Works engineer-in-chief (Mr C. W. O. Turner), his personal assistant (Mr R. Simpson) and the Ministry of Works resident engineer in Invercargill, Mr H. W. Smith, today joined the representatives of Consolidated Zinc, and the United States firms of engineering consultants. who are at Te Anau for technical talks on the ManapouriTe Anau hydro-electric scheme investigation.
“We began talking seriously this morning,” said Mr S. Christie, general manager of Commonwealth Aluminium Corporation, Ltd. The talks would continue until Monday night, he said. “The objects of (he talks Is to assess the physical work done and the results from it and to ensure that everyone is thinking along parallel lines.” It was intended that the party visit Lake Manapouri's west arm tomorrow, said Mr Christie, and if flying conditions were suitable to go to Deep Cove. Of particular interest to the investigators were the rock’ types between the west arm and Deep Cove and at Deep Cove.
It was also intended, during the week-end, to go down the Waiau river to look at potential dam sites downstream from Manapouri to the confluence of the Waiau and Mararoa rivers. \
