CIVIL LIBERTIES COUNCIL

Mr L. Efford, who was not present was last evening elected president of the Canterbury Council for Civil Liberties. He was nominated by the retiring president, Dr. W. Handisides, the vicepresident of the council last year, was not present at the meeting either, but was re-elected.
Dr. Metcalf continued as chairman, presiding over an attendance of 12 persons. “Although it appears there are only a few people here the membership of the council is, of course, larger, and particularly there are a number of unions affiliated to the council who show active interest it what we are doing and occasionally put certain questions to us,” said the secretary (Mr W.
