DAMAGE CAUSED BY STILETTO HEELS

Country Women Make Recommendation Because of the damage done to floor coverings by stiletto heels, the Canterbury Federation of Country Women’s Institutes decided to recommend to manufacturers that they should endeavour to guide a demand for “less slender” heels. "We feel that something may come of this remit," said Mrs W. Kime, who introduced the recommendation from Jie Mairehau institute. Though some felt the stiletto heel was only a passing fashion, the damage caused was considerable according to reports from many parts of New Zealand, she said. Mrs M. Townsend said the organisation was not in a position to dictate to manufacturers: it could only make suggestions. “This fashion is only a whim and it will pass,” she said. “Even if it stayed in forever we cannot do anything about it." The majority of delegates felt, however, that women should support a move against stiletto heels and the damage they caused.
