HOUSEHOLD HELP BY W.D.F.F.
Need For More Workers The need for helpers to fulfill heavy demands made on the housekeeper service is mentioned in the annual report of the Canterbury provincial executive of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. This service supplies housekeepers to needy families where the mother is ill or unable to manage her household duties. The Stratheona training school for housekeepers at Pleasant Point was visited by executive members last October and good progress was reported. Welfare work done during the year included assistance with the sale of Red Cross stamps, with clothes and collections for C.0.R.5.0., the entertainment of elderly persons, Christmas treats for Templeton Hospital patients and a gift of linen to a family who had lost their home through fire. A donation of £l5O was made towards the cost of the new Dominion headquarters in Wellington. Six W.D.F.F. branches have celebrated their silver jubilee. They are Redcliffs, Hawarden, Waimairi, Papanui, ClarkevilleEast Eyreton and Styx. The Port Levy branch has completed 21 years’ service. Within the branches there is concentrated wojk on classes for floral art, cake icing, handwork and cooking, the results of which are on display at regular intervals. More recently classes in dressmaking and embroidery have been organised. For the country meeting this year, executive members travelled to Duvauchelle and spent the day with members of the Banks Peninsula area.
