INfu Zealaria Press Associutioni WELLINGTON, February 12. Playing splendid bowls in a tricky wind at Miramar today, Mesdames L. Maule (Patea) and E. Young (Napier) won their way through to the final of the New Zealand women’s fours. They will meet on the Miramar club’s green tomorrow. In the semi-finals Mrs Young scored comfortably over Mrs E. Dennison (Wanganui) while Mrs Maule, drawing brilliantly, was extended in beating Mrs L. Tricker (Lower Hutt). Mrs Young skips Mesdames J. Martin (lead), H. Frost and L. Harland, 1 and Mrs Maule skips Mesdames L. Rogers (lead), P. Clarkson and L. Anderson. ' Mrs Maule had a comfortable margin in her semi-final but saved the quarter-final only with her last bowl. Four-up on the board and four-down on the last head against Mrs J. Wilkie (Lower Hutt), Mrs Maule drew three of the four Lower Hutt shots with her last bowl and conceded only one point, winning 23-20. A feature of today’s play was the recovery made by Mrs I. Stephen (Hastings) to beat Mrs J. Sangwell (Riverside, East Coast) in the morning round. When the rinks went to morning tea with 12 heads played, Mrs Stephen was in the almost hopeless position of being behind 3-17, but on the return to the green, she scored on every head but one, winning 20-19. The scores were level, 19-19. with one head to come. Mrs Stephen stood three-up on the head. Mrs Sangwell took two out. but her second bowl was a shade heavy, and she saw the game go against her after holding such a big lead. Results: Fourth Round I. Stephen (Hastings) beat J. Sangwell (Riverside, East Coast); E. Young (Napier) beat M. Graham (Takaro); N. Leith (Caversham) beat A. Chalklen (Wellington Women’s); E. Dennison (Wanganui B) beat H. Spence (Hastings); R. Rosoman (Otak;> beat D. Collins (Raumati South); V. L. Tricker (Lower Hutt) beat M. Angell (Mount Victoria); J. Wilkie (Lower Hutt) beat R Salt (Omarunui); L. Maule (Patea) beat T. Penfold (Paraparaumu). Quarter-finals Young beat Stephen; Dennison beat Leith; Tricker beat Rosoman; Maule beat Wilkie. Semi-finals Young beat Dennison; Maule beat Tricker.
