JUNIOR RED CROSS WORK
Help For Refugees
Members of the New Zealand Junior Red Cross have been helping refugees in Germany, India. Indonesia, and Hong Kong. Recently they received a letter from Germany telling them what had been done with a drum of cod liver oil sent to the Federal German Red Cross Centre in Weinberg. The gift was sent to the Heilbronn circle, which recently took over the supervision of the Weinberg transit camp. This camp has been occupied by a floating population of approximately 3500.
Among the transients are many children, most of whom are in poor health. The cod> liver oil was distributed according to the advice of the camp’s doctors. Eight thousand multi-vitamin tablets have also been supplied for Tibetan refugees in India through the League of Red Cross Societies.
Clothing has been sent to the Red Cross in India and Hong Kong. Almost £lOO has been sent in by juniors to help the League oi Red Cross Societies’ appeal for establishing hospitals in Morocco to help the 10.000 men, women, and children who are paralysed through using mineral oil for cooking.
“Borgia” Bracelets.— Bracelets with hidden compartments in I them are being produced in large | numbers in Italy, mainly for the I American market. They have been named “Borgia” bracelets, but instead of carrying poison in the compartments <as in the days of the notorious Borgias) women use them for their vitamins, tranquilisers, aspirins and other tablets. „
