KIWI DILLON FOR SYDNEY
Long Journey To Championships (N.Z. Press Association—CovyrigMi MELBOURNE. Jan. 25. The Perth pacer, Kiwi Dillon, one of the two Western Australian representatives in the 1960 Inter-Do-minion Championship, is on the last leg of his 2800 miles trek from Perth to Sydney, in a one-horse float towed by a utility vehicle. He left Melbourne for Sydney today. Western Australia’s other InterDominion representative, Jackie Scott, is already in Sydney. This will be Kiwi Dillon’s third attempt to win a championship. He failed in the 1958 championship at Adelaide after winning a heat and in last year’s series at the show grounds. In Sydney today, the "Daily Telegraph” trotting writer, Ray Alexander, said some trotting enthusiasts were most upset by several eliminations from the Inter-Dominion field last Wednesday. The New Zealand pacer Unite was a notable discard, he said. “Trainer Bill Picken brought Unite from New Zealand at his own expense to run in the Inter-Dominion,” he said. "Inadequate programmes forced him to race the horse twice from hopeless back marks of 48 yards. “He was chosen as a reserve In a free-for-all last Friday, but had already been eliminated from the Inter-Dominion. Picken took him to the course on Friday but missed a run. “Suzendy, rejected on Wednesday from the Inter-Dominion, flew into third place behind First Kiss and Southern Van at Harold Park on Friday."
