NO SERIOUS DAMAGE

Main Road To . Hermitage

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, January 25. Although 7Jin of rain fell in the Hermitage area between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday, there was no serious damage to the PukakiHermitage road, and the road was kept open, according to the Ministry of Works acting resident engineer (Mr E. R. L. O’Toole).

“We give first priority to maintaining traffic along the road,” said Mr O’Toole. About two to three feet of water was flowing over the BaU Hut road above Husky Flat, and this had scoured out the channel.

“The difficulty is that suitable plant is on the Hermitage side of the Hooker river, and we are waiting for the river to subside sufficiently to enable plant to be assembled on the other side,” Mr O’Toole said.
