Tennis Player Returns

A player who met with some success at the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s Labour week-end tournament, A. Trembath, was little known to most of those watching him. Trembath, who returned to Christchurch a few weeks ago after several years in England, was runner-up in the boy’s singles to Peter Smith, of North Auckland, later a well-known Rugby player, when the national junior championships were held al Wilding Park in 1941. At that time Trembath was one of the leading juniors in Auckland. He later shifted to Christchurch and played senior cricket for West Christchurch from 195255. Trembath, who played some tennis in England, did not show out in the singles at last weekend’s tournament but, with D. Preston, a young Christchurch player, he reached the final of the doubles. They beat both the first seeded and second seeded players.
