TRAVERSE FROM SCOTT BASE
Party Sets Out For Short Trip
The first land traverse from an Antarctic station this season began on Monday, when three Americans and a New Zealander set out from Scott Base on a 50mile trek, according to a brief message received at the United States advance headquarters Harewood.
The trip is thought to be a preliminary foray to test equipment and take supplies out to be left for one of the main parties which will make a longer traverse later. The men named in the message are A W. Stuart, W. R. Clem, F. G Van Der Hoeven (jnr.). United States, and A. J. TT eine, of Wellington, New Zealand. The trip is expected to take eight days. .
