SALES OF SCRAP COPPER
Electrical Supply Authorities
(New Zealand Press Association)
ROTORUA, Sept. 23.
Because of the continued Government refusal to grant an export licence, electric supply authorities were forced to dispose of surplus Stocks of scrap copper on a New Zealand market for prices often considerably below those of the now buoyant London metal market, said the report of the secretary (Mr N. G. Dunning) presented to today’s conference at Rotorua of the Electrical Supply Authorities’ Association of New Zealand. The restricted market meant, in effect, that the electricity consumer was subsidising local industry and users of copper products, although it was now understood that some recent privately arranged deals by supply authorities had resulted in a more satisfactory price.
“The only fair solution is open sale at the best possible price that can be obtained, either locally or overseas,” the report commented.
