RESCUE WORK AWARDS
Assistance Civen In India
For their part in the rescue of a number of injured people in India in 1957, two Englishmen now living in New Zealand have been awarded testimonials by the Royal Humane Society. Advice of the award has been released by the office of the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in Wellington. The two men are Messrs Peter Webster and Peter Bell, and the testimonials are awarded “for having, on December 22, 1957, gone to the rescue of 10 injured persons who were in imminent danger at the foot of a precipice off the Teesta Valley road, Darjeeling. West Bengal, India, one of whom unfortunately died, and the others whose lives they gallantly assisted to save.” Mr Webster works with the New Zealand national commis-
sion for U.N.E.S.C.O. in Wellington. Mr Bell lives in Nelson. The acting High Commissioner for the United Kingdom. Mr C. S. Pickard, will present Mr Webster with his award this morning at the High Commissioner’s office in Wellington. It is hoped MiBell will also attend.
