Temple Basin
Sir,— Surely it is shortsightedness on the part of the controllers of the purse-strings to go cold on the idea of making a road to the ski-ing fields. Admittedly many are quite competent to get there on foot but further up than Temple Basin there are infinitely superior slopes which would provide ski-ing easily the equal of that available at any of the other regular skiing resorts. A road to the present grounds is essential. Australians, and, for that matter, an increasing number of other overseas folk, think nothing of travelling to Queenstown for ski-ing but the expenditure of a mere few thousand pounds would make available another resort of at least equal appeal. Although the Government may be blind to the income-earning potential of these fields the people of Canterbury will not fail to appreciate the benefits to be derived from their development.—Yours, etc., JANUS.
