Record SSOgns Paid For Two-Year-Old

"The Press" Special Service DANNEVIRKE, Sept. 23.

South Island breeders were well to the fore at the second and final day of the national Aberdeen Angus cattle show and sale at Dannevirke today. The Guardian Trust Cup. the major award for unled bulls, was won by Alan Elliott, Brackenfield Stud, Seddon, Marlborough, and the second placing, entered by Mrs M. Collis, of Hawarden, made the record New Zealand price for an unled two-year-old of 850gns in the sale after the show. The award is for the best one of four bulls most suitable for run purposes under natural conditions. The judges for the competition were Messrs W Philip and D. McGlashan. The Brackenfield Stud obtained the top average at the sale of led animals yesterday, and the winning of this award is thought to complete a record in the history of the show. The prize-winning pen of Prince of Brackenfield, Ballad of Brackenfield. Elector of Brackenfield and Elm of Brackenheld. was sold for an average of 555gns, a total of 2220gns. The highest price for the four was 650gns for Elm of Brackenfield. Mrs Collis’s pen of four averaged 673gns, with the top price of 850gns being paid for Cid of Alcazar and a second bull from the same pen making 725gns. Mrs Collis has been breeding for three years and has topped the South Island annual sales for the last two years. Only four bulls were bred this year by the stud, and these were entered at Dannevirke. the first, time the stud has made its appearance in the New Zealand sales.
