ACCIDENTS WITH APPLIANCES

Better Protection

Proposed

(New Zealand Press Association) ROTORUA, September 23.

Investigations were being carried out into the causes and prevention of accidents with electrical appliances, said Mr W. S N. Rennie, president of the Electrical Supply Authorities, Association, during discussion of a remit from the Waimea Electric Power Board asking that consideration be given to the amending of the regulations to require better protective devices on such appliances as storage heaters, electric blankets, convection heaters and similar appliances. Mr Rennie said he felt it would be better if the remit were referred to the executive, especially as the Supply Authority Engineers’ Institute had stated that while it agreed with the remit in principle, it could not agree with it in its present form. There was a need for further study,, the engineers had stated. It was agreed the remit should go to the association’s executive for further investigation.
