GALLOPS AT WINGATUI

"The Press” Special Service

DUNEDIN, September 23.

Sparkler was one of the few horses galloped at Wingatui this morning. Ridden by the stable apprentice, R. J. Pledger, he ran an easy half mile on the plough in 55sec, the opening furlong in 14sec.

This time was equalled by Kelton (L. W. Hare) and Cornflake (J. R. Dowling), which ran the first furlong in 13sec. Two other members of the team. Grate Game (L. W. Hare) and Strategy (J. R. Dowling), ran the first furlong in 13sec and completed the distance in 53sec. Corowa has been scratched from the Salisbury Handicap because of the hard state of the track. The Riccarton trainer, R. Preece, said that Disorder would start in the Dunedin Guineas. The Royal Commission gelding has drawn one of the outside barrier stalls in his alternative engagement, the Novice Handicap, an event in which he is still balloted out with right of re-entry. Another dual acceptor, Sizzler, is likely to run in the Milburn Handicap, the hack sprint for apprentice riders, in preference to the Salisbury Handicap.
