THE FOUR EXERCISES.—In this series of photographs, two prominent wrestlers in Canterbury, G. Wilson and A. Weston, show the four exercises that comprise the weight-training programme. At top left, Wilson demonstrates the exercise designed to strengthen the biceps. With the arms outstretched the weight is brought up to chest level. The top right hand picture shows Weston with the weight behind his shoulders doing knee bends. This exercise will strengthen the legs. The centre picture shows Weston doing the exercise which benefits abdominal and back muscles. With the weight held behind his head he raises himself from a prone position and back again. The last picture, at left, shows Wilson demonstrating the exercise for the development of the forearms. The weight is lifted from floor level to chest height and returned to the floor.
