HOSTEL FOR TEACHERS
Board’s Provision At Darfield
A house which was formerly the residence of the headmaster of the Darfield school has been converted to a hostel to house four single women teachers. It is the first such hostel to be provided by the Canterbury Education Board. Three teachers are already living in the hostel. They pay a nominal rent and use the house as a flat. Many household amenities have been provided by the Darfield Parent-Teacher Association.
The board provided the headmaster (Mr F. J. C. Turner) with another residence before it converted the 76-year-old house into a hostel.
