MOVE TO ABOLISH TAXI STAND
Retailers’ Objection
A number Of High street retailers have protested against the Christchurch City Council's proposed abolition of the public taxi stand in Cashel street between High street and Manchester street.
In a letter to the council, the objectors say that the proposed step is retrograde. They say they feel it could harm their businesses.
“It is not in the public, interest, as it deprives the shopping public of adjacent transport facilities,” the letter says. Size for size, the area provides the largest rating income in the city, and it is objectionable that such a public facility should be withdrawn from the heart of Christchurch.
