Stereophonic Sound
Sir.— May. I ask, through your paper, one qrotion of “Moneo” and ‘•Brltannicus?" Are they
normally-equipped examples of homo sapiens? In other words, have they two ears, each In good order? It will, I am sure, be agreed that the whole aim of the re-' cording industry is to get sound reproduced in such a manner as to make the reproduction as nearly as possible indistinguishable from the originaL As no two performers can occupy the same space at the same time, then an orchestra, etc., must be spread out In a “live" performance, this is heard in stereo; we each have two ears. Therefore twin-channel recording is merely another step to realising the recording industry's alm. For my money, hi-fl stereo is definitely on the up and up.—Yours, etc., AUDIOPHILE. August 14, 1959.
