ANZAC DAY IN VICTORIA
R.S.L. Members To Hold Poll % (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright} MELBOURNE, July 16. Four hundred delegates at the Victorian Returned Servicemen’s League State conference today voted in. favour of a plebiscite on Anzac Day observance. After an hour and a half of orderly discussion the motion, presented by Caulfield Central—Victoria's biggest sub-branch—was passed by a show of hands. The motion calls for general meetings at all sub-branches throughout Victoria between October 1 and November 30 at which the method of Anzac Day observance is to be discussed. Each meeting will vote on the basic question:, "Do you favour any change in the manner of observing Anzac Day in Victoria —yes or no?” Members in favour of a change will be asked to vote for one of these four alternatives: The march and observance ceremonies to start earlier to ensure the finish of the shrine service by 4.45 • p.m. Hotels, restaurants and theatres to be open from 5 p.m. until normal closing time. Profit from night trotting and night football to be allocated to R.S.L. welfare funds where possible. The march and observance ceremonies to be held in the morning, with restricted entertainment after 1 p.m. Proceeds from these to go to the R.S.L. and other former servicemen’s organisations. The march and observance ceremonies to be held in the morning, with normal activities after 1 p.m. Normal activity all day, with the march and observance ceremonies by arrangement. The majority membership vote will be accepted as the view of the R.S.L. in Victoria.
