Badminton Australians Win At Nelson
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) NELSON. July 18. The southern section of the touring Australian badminton team won all its games against Nelson tonight. Results (Nelson names first):— Singles.—D. Hart lost to J. F. Russell. 0-15, 2-15; B. Newman lost to C. Cutt. 3-15, 9-15: Miss J. Chappell lost to Mrs Russell, 1-11, 6-11; Miss Millard lost to Mrs J. Twining, 0-11, 1-11. Doubles,—B. Hart and P. Newman lost to J. F. Russell and C. Cutt. 1-15, 1-15; Misses Millard and Chappell lost to Mesdames Russel) and Twining, 1-15, 0-15. Mixed Doubles.—R. Smith and Mis* T. Black lost to C. Cutt and Mrs Twining, 1-15, 0-15; K. Woods and Mrs S. Warren lost to Russell and Mrs Russell, »3-15, 4-15. At Gisborne tonight the northern section of the Australian team was unbeaten in its match against Gisborne. The women's doubles match was cancelled because Mrs June Bevan (Australia) was indisposed, but she recovered sufficiently to play in the mixed doubles. Results:— Singles.—K. Turner beat S. Robb. 13-3, 15-0; G. Robotham beat D Carswell, 15-2, 15-3; Mrs A. Plncott beat Miss A. Hutchinson, 11-2, 11-1; Mrs J. Bevan beat Mrs G. Robb. 11-5. 11*3. Men's Doubles.—Turner and Robotham beat Robb and Carswell. 15-0, 15-3. Mixed Doubles.—Robotham and Mrs Bevan beat Carswell and Mis; Hutchison, 15-4. 15-3; Turner and Mrs Plncott beat Robb and Mrs Robb, 15-2, 15-1.
