Smith, the 38-year-old Sussex and England left-hander, completed a rare hat-trick of centuries against touring teams when he hit 145 not out against India, at Hove, Sussex, today. Sussex, one of the weakest sides in this year's county championship, had the Indians in difficulties at the close when they were 185 runs behind with nine second innings wickets to fall.
