The New Zealand Table Tennis Association has slightly relaxed its ban on the use of thick sponge bats, which were declared internationally unacceptable earlier this year. In April, the association decided to enforce the ban this season, although the international bodv would have allowed New Zealand until January 1, 1960. to apply it After receiving a letter from the Auckland association asking for clarification of the position of Wilson sandwich bats, which are a frac*ion of a millimetre too thick, the national executive decided to allow their use by all associations until January 1. Two votes were recorded against the resolution.
