Historic Lamps Used
Old lamps will be a feature of the early colonial galleries in the Canterbury Museum. An early standard gas lamp stands in the Christchurch street. From a bracket on the street corner hangs one with “A.l” boldly -tout out. It is from the old A.l. Hotel, formerly located on Beath’s corner. Being prepared for installation is one from the “Seven-Mile Post” Hotel on the Main North road and another from the original wharf at Lyttelton.
■ The shops and dwelling on the Christchurch street all have interior lamps of the early days. In one shop there are richlyembossed oil lamps from the chapel at Longbeach. in others a variety of gas lamps, and other lamps are from hotels, farm houses, and homes.
Another arrived yesterday. Originally seen* at the entrance to the old Bruce Hotel, it has been presented by the Akaroa Borough Council. All the lamps—whether oil, gas, or candle—have been wired for electricity in such a way as to preserve their original effect
