£465 FOR CHAPELS APPEAL
Donation By Junior
Chamber The goodwill of the people of Canterbury was shown by the £25,000 so far raised by the Hospital Chapels Appeal, said the organiser, Mr A. Prentice, when he was handed a cheque sor £465 7s 9d by Mr P. R. Vincent, president of the Canterbury Junior Chamber of Commerce, at the chamber’s luncheon on Thursday Mr Prentice said it was hoped that the foundation stones of at least two of the chapels would be laid in the near future. Mr Vincent said that the cheque was for the amount of the proceeds from the sale of blood and bone to householders, for which about 120 members of the junior chamber had turned out on a Saturday morning. Mr Prentice, with whom were associated Mr E. A. Crothall, the Rev. Father G Creagh and the Rev. I; B. Wilson, said that the cheque was a wonderful gift. At the beginning of the campaign, members of the Junior Chamber of Commerce had shown their sympathy with the appeal by organising the function held in the grounds of the Christchurch Public Hospital.
