Committee To Review Lists Of Exempted Goods
(fteu> Zeuidoa Press Association)
WELLINGTON, July 77. A committee has been set up under the Shops and Offices Act, 1955, to review the list of exempted goods which may be sold at any time. The members of the committee are Mr W. B. Freeman, of Thames, retired Stipendiary Magistrate (chairman), Mr L. Hadley, of Wellington, member of the national executive of the Federation of Labour. Mr S Mather, of Wellington, registrar, of the Wellington Justices of the Peace Association, Mrs S McLagan, of Christchurch, and Mr G. C. Riddell, of Auckland, a former chief postmaster. “The present list of exempted goods has undoubtedly given reasonable satisfaction to the con-
suming public by permitting the sale of a restricted range of essential foodstuffs and other commodities, but the list has not been reviewed for more than two years, and in view of representations which have been received for the addition or deletion of certain items, it is considered desirable that a review should now be undertaken." said the Minister of Labour (Mr Hackett) today. It is expected that the committee will commence its sittings in Wellington early in August. Organisations or individuals who wish to make submissions for the committee’s consideration should get in touch with the secretary. Exempted Goods Committee, Department of Labour, Box 6310, Wellington, as soon as possible.
