Remuera Remit Seeks Reduction 'New Zeaiana Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 17. Among the remits to tje considered by the National Party conference in Dunedin is one from Remuera suggesting that the party policy committee investigate the increase in the dumber of employees in the non-trading Government departments and devise ways of reducing costs by increasing efficiency and progressively lessening controls. A list of 36 remits was released for publication a fortnight ago. and more are contained in the Dunedin council’s report released today. The Remuera branch also suggests an inquiry into why New Zealand, is not attracting foreign capital for investment in industry as Australia and other countries are. Waitaki wants the re-institution of a second chamber incorporated in party policy Tamaki wants an examination for free medicine under Social Security, in particular the advantages of charging for each prescription with exemptions for specified classes of beneficiaries. Westland suggests a charge of 2s 6d for all medicines supplied under Social Security to curb the waste incurred by unused prescriptions. The Eden branch wants the party to publish a small political primer which would enable people to grasp the basic principles for which the party stands In a note to the remit, the branch states that in many homes, where parents are National supporters, children are not grounded in the essential differences between free enterprise and Socialism.
Fendalton wants land tax to be repealed and also a reduction in the incidence of P.A.Y.E. taxation on people classed as single.
