CONTEMPT CHARGE
Goldfine’s Plea Changed

Bernard Goldfine, the industrialist friend of the former Presidential assistant, Sherman Adams, yesterday withdrew a plea of not guilty to an Indictment charging him with contempt of Congress. He threw himself on the mercy of the United States District Court at Washington by entering a new plea of nolo contendere (no contest) ’ Sentence will be passed ' at a later date. Mr Goldfine was indicted last year for refusing to answer questions before a sub-committee of the House of Representatives concerning the financial affairs of a Boston company of which he is , the major stockholder. Mr Goldfine claimed then that the questions were not pertinent to an investigation which the subcommittee was conducting into the operation of various Federal Government regulatory agencies. The hearings which resulted in - his indictrrfent brought disclosures , of his gifts and favours to politicians, including Mr Adams, who was then serving as President Eisenhower's chief assistant Mr Adams resigned his post on September 22 last year.
