“DEATH MARCH” SURVIVOR
Catholic Bishop On Visit To N.Z. (Neu Zealand Press association) WELLINGTON, May 13. One of the few survivors of the gruelling 130-mile “death march” of the Korean War, Bishop Thomas Quinlan, Roman Catholic vicar-apostolic of Chunchon, Korea, is visiting Wellington. Born in Ireland he went to China as a missionary in 1920, and for the last 26 years has laboured in Korea spreading the Roman Catholic faith. Bishop Quinlan said the people of South Korea did not want communism, and he did not think that the north were happy under Communist rule, either. “The only reason the situation in the north is the way it is is because they have a ball and chain around their necks. If they had a free vote I feel sure they would vote against it”
