Year’s Work Reviewed “Interest has been well maintained in our various projects overseas, and assistance has gone to many countries.” says Miss Janet Studholme, Director of the New Zealand Junior Red Cross in her annual report. In the report are details of gifts and donations valued at more than £3OOO that were made during the year. These include 34 cases of clothing for Korea, valued at £1950 and six cases of clothing for the British Red Cross Society valued at £338. Three drafts totalling £l7l were forwarded for special shoes, iron cots and mattresses for leper children in India Scarves and pullovers were knitted for those in North India. Babies’ clothing, toilet articles, books, and scrapbooks were sent to North Borneo. More than 1000 ditty bags valued at £514 were given during the year. Drafts amounting to £3Ol were sent for the support of five refugee or displaced children. All the money for one child came from one school, says Miss Studholme. A case of clothing and books valued at £5O was sent to the Cook Islands, three parcels of books were sent to missions in the Philippines, the Fiji Children’s Hospital received toys and books and the Great Ormond street Hospital, London, received clothing and quilts. Miss Studholme reports that there has been an increase of 809 in the junior membership, bringing the total to 20.014 members in 701 circles.
