TROTTING Schnapps—Nadjehda For Timaru Double

Schnapps and Nadjehda will form a popular combination for the T.A.B. double at the Timaru Trotting Club’s winter meeting at Washdyke on Saturday. Schnapps will contest the President’s Handicap, which will be run over two miles, and Nadjehda the May Handicap, which will be run over 10 furlongs.

Schnapps, which is trained by 0 R. Young for Mr E. T. McDermott, has shown outstanding form since he began racing in February. He has improved with every run and next season he is expected to de- 0 velop into one of the best winners of his gait Schnapps was a laststart winner at Forbury Park and 2 at his previous start he won impressively at Methven. Nadjehda, which was driven by Young when she won well over 13 * furlongs at Oamaru last week, will appreciate her return to sprint racing in the May Handicap. She is usually a most reliable be- 0 ginner and this should enable her to receive a good run throughout her race. Her other racing in the 0 last month has been of a high standard and it will be surprising if she fails to make a bold show- _ ing. 3 Fields, with details of recent performances, are:— PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP, Of £575; 4min 41 sec class. Two ® miles. 0231 ONSIDE (7) It. One of slow- .< est beginners at Oamaru- last „ week and recorded a fine effort w to win narrowly. Seems to be on the improve and the extra , distance in this race might not 1 be beyond him. 0000 ALLANAH MARIE (4) It. Has raced disappointingly lately. , failing badly at Forbury Park 1 on May 2 at her most recent start. Is capable in bad ground and should have conditions to her liking on Saturday. Could cause an upset. 4000 ATONE (5) It. Form back- « ground is not strong, but she is capable of better. 140#i BLUE MARLIN (3) It. Recent placing was at Methven last month. Is capable of mastering two miles and could be in at the finish. 0402 DISRAELI (11). Has been placed over two miles in re- ( cent weeks. Seems to be racing more solidly than in the past „„„„ and could be a place prospect. ' 0000 EBONITE (16) It. Won at Blenheim and Addington in February, but her form has tailed off in the meantime. Is capable but unreliable. 4013 FALSEHOOD (14) It. Third : over two miles in race won by Cruising Dell at Hutt Park on May 2at his last start. May find this race a little beyond him. 0002 FINAL GLOW (13) It. Finished well for a close second to Onside last week after starting from 24 yards. Has never appealed as a stayer in the past, but must be respected after last week's race. 3200 FOCAL POINT (3) It. Has been a little disappointing in ' recent weeks and could be feeling the effects of hard racing. Has few peers in bad . ground and should have Strack to suit him on Saturday. 0014 IRISH IDYLL (9) It. Latest placing was over two miles at Gore. Had every chance that day in a fairly weak field. Opposition in this event looks I much stronger. , 0211 MASTER TRICK (2) It. West-port-trained pacer with an outstanding record for consistency. Won twice at Hutt Park without being extended and looks ready to repeat those efforts at shbrt notice. Will be having his most serious test to date and should at least finish in the money. 0211 SCHNAPPS (6) It. One of the most promising pacers in his class, with three wins and one placing to his credit from six starts to date. He was a most impressive winner at Forbury Park on May 2 at his last start 1 after losing from 36 to 48 yards just after the start. He looks set to win his way to a tight mark and should just about win again on Saturday. 1102— SYDNEY HANOVER (15) It. Won twice at Awapunb last month and was second to Tryst at Hutt Park. Is good in heavy going. 0131 TAKITIMU (1) It. Smart mare by Red Emperor, winning over 13 furlongs at Methven at her most recent appearance. Was found wanting at the end of two miles in the Cheviot Cup and again will need plenty of luck to take part in the finish. 0000 TIMBER MILLER (12) It. Recent form background is weak and makes little appeal. 1000 UTOSS (10) It. Has had no luck in his recent racing. Would appeal more over a shorter distance. 0000 GAY POLKA (3) 12. Has shown ability at times, but recent efforts have been poor. 0402 QUEENSON (2) 12. Finished brilliantly from bad position at the straight entrance for second to Puma at Gore last month. Should be prominent on Saturday and looks to be one of the brighter prospects. 40C4 RADAR (1) 12. Battled on well for fourth at Forbury Park on May 2. Races best on rainaffected tracks, and should have conditions to her liking. 0002 SKYDALE (1) 24. Narrowly beaten over two miles at Hutt Park by Cruising Dell. Will not be troubled by an easy track, and should be in at the finish. MAY HANDICAP, Of £320; 2min 54sec class; one mile and a quarter. 4001 CLACKSTON (3) It. Finished fast for a narrow win over 13 furlongs St Oamaru last week. Should go close to repeating! that effort.

0241 NADJEHDA (11) It. Has raced most consistently lately and gained a well-earned win at Oamaru. Is a smart sprinter and looks to have bright prospects of winning again. 0033 ALLARD (10) It. Fair third at Roxburgh on March 30 at his last start. Is not brilliant, but is usually reliable. 2040 CAPTIVUS (2) It. Was in the middle throughout his race at Oamaru last week, and finished seventh. Hardly a winning trial for this race. •311 CHELSEA LADY (7) It., Beat a weak field pointlessly at Hutt Park on May 2. If she can work clear early and is allowed to make her own rules, she may take catching once more. 0000 CROUGHTON BELLE (1) It. Tired badly at Oamaru after leading early. Does not appeal. 0000 FIREBELL (13) It. Has not been racing with much dash lately and will have to improve sharply to have much chance. 3000 GYPSY BELLE (9) It. Handy early only at Oamaru, and dropped right out. Is better than that, but will have to be taken on trust. 0000 IMPERIAL LIGHT (6) It. Has done nothing lately to suggest he has winning prospects on Saturday. 0000 MAINLAND (4) It. Too unreliable to be considered seriously. 0001 SPRING LYNNE (8) It. Won easily at Amberley earlier in the month and could again upset calculations. 1024 TE PAR (12) It. Failed to run on after having every chance at Washdyke, and was well beaten into fourth place. Previous form has been good, and he could do better on Saturday. 0033 TERYMAN (5) It. Finished brilliantly from an awkward position for third at Oamaru. less than half a length from the winner, Onside. Is above average in ability, but failure to hold his position earlv might be against him over 10 furlongs. 0000 IRISH WIT (3) 12. Failed badly at Oamaru. and does not appeal. 3040 MULTI BELLA (2) 12. Finished gamely for fifth at Oamaru after being badlv placed most of the way. Is racing generously and should be in at the finish. 3001 VANOVER (1) 12. Has not raced since winning over 10 furlongs at Alexandra Park on December 27. Is a capable four-year-old. but might need a race to bring him to his peak.
