N.Z. CONVENTION OF W.C.T.U.
About 80 Delegates Expected The New Zealand . Women’s Christian Temperance Union will hold its seventy-second Dominion convention in Christchurch from
March 11 to 17. About 80 delegates from many parts of New Zealand are expected to attend. Dominion officers will hold an executive meeting before the conference opens. All meetings will be held at the Durham Street Methodist Church hall. The union, which was founded by Miss Frances Willard in 1883, now has branches in more than 50 countries. In New Zealand the union has a wide programme of activity and has representations on many national organisations. It operates a legal and parliamentary department and under an educational department holds an annual temperance quiz throughout the Dominion. The union has 20 superintendents in charge of departments of work, such as citizenship, peace, and reform. The organisation claims that it was mainly responsible for bringing about the women’s franchise in 1893.
