Blenheim Road

Sir, —The original area of Hagley Park has been considerably reduced by the transfer of land to Christ’s College, the North Canterbury Hospital Board, and' for roadways. Nearly two miles of roadways divide the remaining area info four pieces, and now a proposed roadway is to again divide one of the pieces and further reduce the total area of the park. Perhaps the question of finance has influenced the National Roads Board to confiscate the parkland as a cheap and easy way to correct their Blenheim road blunder. The proposed scheme for a subdivision must be destroyed before Hagley Park becomes an area of bits and pieces of land that will be useless for recreational purposes and doubtful for aesthetic value.—Yours, etc., _

RIP VAN WINKLE. September 11, 1958.
