Pope On German Unity
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) BERLIN, August 17. The Pope said in a radio talk to a convention of Roman Catholics from East and West Germany today that their coming together was a true sign of the unity of their country. The Pope deplored the division of Germany into Western and Communist halves and described the city of Berlin as “a symbol of a people torn asunder,” the American Associated Press reported. In a clear reference to conditions in Communist East Germany, the Pope called on parents to do all they could to offset the damaging effects of a school system which was opposed to God, and even denied Him.
