Presentations At Palace To End
(Special .Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, March 17.
Tomorrow and on Wednesday and Thursday, limousines will queue before the gates of ’ Buckingham Palace when the Queen holds her last afternoon presentation parties. No more afternoon parties will be held after this season.
It is unusual for three such functions to be held on successive days, but the rush of applicants has been so great that a third afternoon has been given over to satisfy the desires of debutantes and ambitious parents that they should be “presented at Court.’’ It is not known yet what form, if any, the presentation ceremonies will take in future. This week’s arrival scenes outside the Palace will be recorded as a documentary film depicting the last episode of a centuries-old chapter of social history. “Drawing rooms’’ were instituted by William and Mary at the Palace of Whitehall and St. James’s Palace, but after the accession of Queen Victoria, they were transferred to Buckingham Palace.
