SKYLIGHT, BRIANBRA IN EXCELLENT TRIAL

Skylight and Brianbra showed their fitness for their

engagements at Oamaru with fast sprints on the Inside of the trial grass at Riccarton yesterday morning. Trlalists bad good footing, and times generally were fast.

Skylight lE. G. Low) was keen to increase speed on the outsidcof Meandering (L. McGuire) nearing the end of their half mile They sped over the distance in 47 4-ssec. Skylight and Meandering will start their racing for their Oamaru owner, Mr W. Woodham, on Saturday. Skylight is top weight in the Stewards’ Handicap, and Meandering is in the Parkside Hack Handicap. Brianbra (C. McDonald) was galloping keenly half a length ahead of his stablemate, Purser <R. W. Gould), ending six furlongs in Imin 15 4-ssec. Though he appeared to have speed in reserve at the end, Brianbra ran his last half mile in 49 2-ssec. He will be a fit top weight in the Parkside Hack Handicap at Oamaru. He has also had luck in the barrier draw, and will take beating at six furlongs. Motueka <C. T. Wilson) and Tamarisk (R. W. Gould) ran seven furlongs on terms in Imin 33sec, the last four in Slsec. Tamarisk is engaged in the Oamaru Cup on Saturday. Lucky Time (J. Beck) recorded Imin 43 4-ssec for a mile. She was joined for the last half mile, run in 49 4-ssec, by King’s Music IT. Wilson). Lucky Time is a light-weight in the field for tne Redcastle Hack Handicap at Oamaru. On Terms The stablemates, Neptune’s Pride (A H. Eastwood) and Bosky (N. Cowles), ran in from the mile on terms in Imin 45 3-ssec. the last half in 50 l-ssec. Vivien Leigh (R. W. * Gould) and Kelbra <J. Beck) recorded Imin 31 3-ssec for seven furlongs and 52 3-ssec for the last bait mile. Mozart <R. J. Blair) was too good for Milling. Bay <W. Gibbs) over a mile, drawing away in the straight to finish several lengths clear. He recorded Imin 42 3-ssec after running the first half in 50 4-ssec. Skyrider <G. W. Mein) went leisurely from the mile to the half mile, and sprinted from there in 50 4-ssec. Mexico (B. S. Dodds) followed

in 50 4-ssec, and Miss Quality (G. W. Mein) and Stormhaven (J M. Dempsey) in 4Csec. Count Pierre (C. T. Wilson) was keen to increase speed just ahead of his stablemate Romancing (L. McGuire) after running half a mile in 50 4-ssec. Both may develop their best form as three-year-olds next season, though Romancing has been a winner and Count Pierre has been placed. Sarcelle’s sister Ruve (W. Beck) and Buckles (J. Beck) sprinted from the half mile on terms in 51 2-ssec< Jack Ashore (R. W. Gould) beat his stablemate Crown Witness (G. W. Mein) with impressive ease over half a mile. Crown Witness led by two lengths early, but Jack Ashore won by half a length, a margin he could have widened, and recorded 51 2-ssec. Under Restraint

The Motukarara winner Brummel (N. Cowles) showed nothing like his best speed over half a mile. He was restrained all the way and took 52 3-ssec. Nugget (A. J. Stokes) and Whiohau (R. L. Browning) sprinted five furlongs, the last four in 50sec. Whiohau is an Oamaru Cup candidate. A. J. Stokes will ride him. Rathfarham (E. G. Low) and Rose of Kildare (L. McGuire) dashed home from the half mile, on terms in 49 3-ssec. Meteorologist (D. J. Thistoll) and Super Tone (G. G. Hampton) sprinted five furlongs, the last four strongly in 49 2-ssec. They had good weights up, so there was merit in their trial.

The two-year-olds Esla (J. Beck) and Allemande (E. G. Low) were paired over half a mile. They recorded 50 3-ssec, finishing on terms. Bolero (N. Cowles) and Foxplay (A. J. Stokes) were clear of Royal Regent (W. McGregor), and In the Bag (W. Gibbs) was at the rear, when they were finishing half a mile in 49 3-ssec. Foxplay is a two-year-old daughter of Royal Commission and Foxleap owned by Mr J. B. Douglas-Clifford and trained by A. Cutts and R. Preece. Summer’s End (R. L. Browning) showed jumping ability for a novice to finish a run of four hurdles clear of Scotch Emblem <G. D. Lee). Summer’s End established his lead at the third and fourth flights.
