Rugby FRANCE BEATS AUSTRALIA

(N.Z. Press Association—Covyrta *it) PARIS, March 9. The Wallabies folded up like a pack of cards in their final test match against France today. France trounced Australia 19-0, before a crowd of 25,000 at the Colombes Stadium. France scored all its points in an inspired second spell in which it three times crossed the Australian line for tries and its backs twice drop-kicked field goals. There was no score in the first spell, in which the Wallabies fiddled about and frittered away chances when they had the advantage of a strong wind. It was the Wallabies’ fifth successive test defeat since they left Australia. AUSTRALIANS’ TOUR OF N.Z. Appreciation Of £l5OO Grant (New Zealana Press association) WELLINGTON, March 10. Appreciation of financial assistance was expressed by the Australian Rugby Union in a letter read at a meeting tonight of the executive committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union. The assistance was £l5OO (Australian) toward the assembly costs of the Australian team to tour New Zealand this year and a promise of consideration of an additional grant at the end of the tour. “This generosity is in keeping, with your kindly attitude over our lean years,” said the letter. “It is very nice to receive a letter like that,” said the chairman (Mr C. S. Hogg). MAORIS’ TOUR OF AUSTRALIA Playing Of Match On Return (New Zealana Press Association! WELLINGTON, March 10. As the New Zealand Maori team will return to Auckland after touring Australia, the executive committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union tonight decided to recommend to the incoming council that the Maoris’ match against a New Zealand fifteen be played at Auckland on July 9. Previously the match was to be at Wellington on July 10. It had been thought previously that the Maoris would return to Christchurch, and that Wellington would be the most central venue. Mr J. N. Millard said tonight that the Wellington union would concur in the recommendation.
