Marching N.Z. CHAMPIONSHIP AT INVERCARGILL

Faultless Display By Scottish Hussars

(New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, March 9.

In temperatures hovering around the 80-degree mark Auckland’s Scottish Hussars took the New Zealand marching girls’ championship for the fourth year in succession in Invercargill yesterday. The precision marching of the girls wearing the Menzies tartan captured the imagination of the 3000 spectators.

The team, trained by Captain J. Sneal, performed faultlessly in the double retreat, turns and slow and quick marching.

The runners-up were Vanguard, of Taranaki, with the Southland champions Regalettes, in third place. The team awarded fhe Bock Shield for the best display march was another Auckland team— Llenoc.

The champion leader was Miss R. Josephs, of the Vanguard team. Miss M. Velin (Broadway. Wanganui) was second and Miss J. Proctor, of Regalettes, third.

Other awards were.—Best instructor, champion team: Captain Sneal (Auckland). Best marker: Miss C. Curd (Vanguards). Best costumes: Regalettei 1, Tamerlanei (Nelson) 2.
